Referee ratings no longer to be published in Portuguese football

SIC Notícias3 September 2026 at 15:15

The ratings for football referees in Portugal, classified as "unsatisfactory," "satisfactory," or "very satisfactory," are no longer being made public. The decision was made by the Arbitration Council of the Portuguese Football Federation.

This measure comes as part of a series of changes in communication about refereeing. Previously, the Arbitration Council had already cancelled the television programmes in which controversial plays and referee decisions during matches were explained.

The decision to stop publishing referee ratings was made by the Arbitration Council, which is the body responsible for the management and supervision of refereeing in Portugal.

With this change, another mechanism for transparency and public evaluation of referee performance in Portuguese football matches disappears.
