Left-back Alex Telles will be absent from Botafogo's match against Palmeiras next Sunday at Estádio Nilton Santos in the Brasileirão. The club announced on Thursday that jersey number 13 and team captain underwent an imaging test that revealed a muscle injury in his left thigh, with an expected return for the match against RB Bragantino on the 12th.
However, O GLOBO newspaper found that the player was not diagnosed with an actual injury. The reported condition was myalgia, the medical term for muscle pain, in the posterior muscle of the left thigh. The absence of muscle fiber rupture was celebrated by Botafogo's coaching staff and medical department thinking about the rest of the season.
Telles felt pain in his thigh during the first half of the derby against Flamengo last Sunday, also in the Brasileirão. On that occasion, he was substituted by defender Lucas Monzón, since the alvinegro side was playing in a three-defender formation and Marçal moved to the left-back position.
