Fábrica da Criatividade, in Castelo Branco, hosted a training session dedicated to "Fiscal and Legal Issues in Culture", as part of the 2nd Training and Capacity Building Programme of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (RPAC). The session was led by Alexandra Fonseca, a lawyer and specialist in legal and fiscal areas applied to the cultural sector, aimed at professionals and entities that are part of RPAC. Registrations were open until September 3rd, with free participation subject to availability of places.

The training covered topics such as copyright and intellectual property, public procurement, contracting of artistic activities, and different forms of organizing cultural activity. Practical issues related to authorship and ownership of rights, related rights, public domain, resale rights, rights management and use of works were also addressed, as well as situations of legal requirement for contracting in the artistic sector.

The module focused on the fiscal and contributory framework of different types of artistic income, including issues of VAT, income tax, corporate tax, and Social Security, in light of the Statute of Cultural Area Professionals and the Register of Cultural Area Professionals. The session also allowed participants to understand when public procurement rules apply and to distinguish the fiscal and contributory framework associated with the sale of artworks, provision of services, and intellectual property.

The programme is an initiative of the Directorate-General for the Arts, operated by Arte Central, which aims to provide technical and theoretical capacity building for human resources of network entities in various areas of cultural activity. Alexandra Fonseca has professional experience in Law and Taxation, with continued connection to the cultural and creative sector, having developed legal and fiscal advisory services for artists, creators, companies, and cultural entities in areas such as cinema, literature, publishing, visual arts, music, software, and design. Fábrica da Criatividade promotes and hosts creation, training, and capacity-building initiatives in cultural and creative areas, contributing to the dynamization of the sector and to the creation of learning opportunities in the territory.
