The Central Bank of the Netherlands (DNB) announced on Wednesday the transfer of 86 tonnes of its gold reserves from the United States and Canada to London. The measure was justified by "growing geopolitical instability" and is part of the bank's strategy to strengthen its crisis preparedness.
According to the DNB, the transfer improves the negotiating capacity of Dutch gold and the speed with which it can be mobilized in case of emergency. The bank considers it easier to trade gold reserves from London than from New York and Ottawa.
The Netherlands' total gold reserves amount to 612.4 tonnes. The operation is part of a broader movement by the DNB to optimize the management of its international reserves in the face of the global uncertainty scenario.
