Court rejects Sócrates' precautionary measure regarding appointment of court-appointed lawyer in Operation Marquês

The Lisbon Criminal Instruction Court rejected the precautionary measure filed by former prime minister José Sócrates against the appointment of a court-appointed lawyer in the Operation Marquês case.

The sentence validated the appointment of Luís Carlos Esteves as a court-appointed lawyer to defend Sócrates, considering the appointment legitimate and within legal parameters.

Sócrates had challenged Esteves' appointment, seeking to annul the designation act of the court-appointed lawyer who began representing him in the judicial process.

The court's decision thus maintains Luís Carlos Esteves as Sócrates' court-appointed lawyer, following the normal progress of the case involving the former government official.
