It has been a year since the accident at the Elevador da Glória in Lisbon. CNN Portugal spoke with Manuel Leal, a leader of Fectrans, who considered it important to end the outsourcing of maintenance services carried out on these equipment.
The Elevador da Glória is expected to resume operation in 2029, according to plans. During this period, the issue of elevator maintenance has been the subject of debate, especially after the accident that occurred a year ago.
Fectrans, the transport workers' federation, has been advocating that the maintenance of Carris elevators should not be contracted out to external companies, but rather carried out by internal workers, thus ensuring greater control and safety in the services.
Manuel Leal emphasized the federation's position regarding the need to internalize maintenance services, arguing that this would be the most appropriate way to ensure the safety of the equipment and users of the Elevador da Glória.
