The celebrations of Port Wine Day 2026 are part of the commemorative program for the 270th anniversary of the Demarcated Region of Douro, the oldest demarcated and regulated wine-producing region in the world. Organized by the Port and Douro Wines Institute, I.P. (IVDP, IP), the initiatives aim to bring Port Wine closer to new audiences and showcase the excellence of the most recent harvests.
The program runs from September 10 to 12, with three main events. On the 10th, the official date of Port Wine Day, the "Douro + Sustainable" distinctions will be awarded, recognizing projects, people, and companies dedicated to the protection and sustainable development of the region. On the 11th, at 5:00 PM, the IVDP facilities in Porto host a public tasting of the 2024 Vintage declarations, a harvest of particular quality announced by several producers.
The highlight of the program is the Sunset Party on September 12, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, at the Gallery on Floor 3 of Mercado do Bolhão. The event features the presence of around 30 producers and aims to present the versatility of Port Wine to a diverse audience, especially younger age groups, in a relaxed and casual atmosphere.
According to Gilberto Igrejas, president of IVDP, IP, Port Wine Day represents a strategic opportunity to renew the consumption profile, allowing Port wine to reach different audiences in less traditional settings, showcasing the versatility of a wine unique in the world, deeply connected to its History and with styles capable of accompanying different moments of consumption.
