Coach José Mourinho confirmed on Thursday that Real Madrid opened a disciplinary procedure against defender Raúl Asencio, a 23-year-old Spanish player. The measure comes after the Merengue club became aware of legal proceedings involving the player.
Asencio was intercepted by police in Gran Canaria on August 16 while driving under the influence of alcohol. The test revealed that he exceeded three times the legal permitted rate. As a result, he was fined 14,400 euros, equivalent to approximately 85,000 reais, and had his driver's license suspended for eight months.
On Thursday, the defender faced another legal proceeding in Gran Canaria, this time related to the alleged non-consensual disclosure of a sexual video recorded in 2023. The Spanish club then decided to open the disciplinary procedure against the player.
At a press conference, Mourinho defended Asencio, stating that he is an exemplary professional. According to the coach, when he was physically well, no one trained as intensely as he did, and that now, even injured for several weeks, he is always the first to arrive and the last to leave training sessions.
