Boto talks about Plata's return to Flamengo after failed sale: 'We never wanted him to leave'

After Dynamo Moscow "returned" striker Gonzalo Plata to Flamengo, football director José Boto stated that the club "never wanted" to negotiate the player. The Portuguese executive commented for the first time about the failed negotiation with the Russians before the match against Mirassol, on Wednesday, for the Brazilian Championship, at Maracanã.

Boto said he can't explain what the Russians did, but that the player is very welcome at the club. According to him, there was a proposal that was very advantageous for Plata and Flamengo agreed with some conditions, but the Russians "blew up" the deal. The matter is being handled by the club's legal department.

Flamengo had agreed to transfer Plata to Dynamo Moscow for R$60 million upfront, with the possibility of the deal reaching R$72 million with contractual bonuses. The striker had even landed in Russia last weekend before the transfer was frustrated.
