The Convent of São Bernardino in Câmara de Lobos received on the night of September 2 an intimate chamber music concert promoted by Banda Recreio Camponês to mark the 800 years since the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. This is an intimate concert that contrasts with the usual performances of the Band, inviting the public to discover the musicians in small ensembles and to appreciate more closely the different instrumental timbres.
The program brought together four ensembles made up of members of Banda Recreio Camponês: a flute quintet, a clarinet quartet, a saxophone quartet, and a brass quintet. The passage through the different groups allowed highlighting some of the instrumental families that are usually gathered in a philharmonic band.
Banda Recreio Camponês is one of the historical musical associations of Câmara de Lobos, founded on December 1, 1910, and for a long time known as "Banda Nova." With over 115 years of activity, it maintains a regular presence at religious festivities and cultural events in the municipality and the Region, having also participated in initiatives outside of Madeira and represented the Region on different occasions. The institution has held the status of public utility association since 1979 and dedicates particular attention to musical training through its music school.
