'I heard my bones breaking': hunter reports brown bear attack in Alaska

oglobo2 September 2026 at 20:55

The hunter Jadon Nicoara suffered fractures in the bones of his nose after being attacked by a brown bear in Alaska, United States. Nicoara was hunting caribou with his cousin Daniel when he noticed the trees moving above him and a bear ran toward him with its mouth open and growling.

The animal knocked Nicoara down and attacked him while the two rolled down the slope of a canyon. According to the hunter's account, the bear tried to bite his hands and one of his feet during the attack.

Daniel drew his pistol and shot at the animal. The shots caused the bear to momentarily stop the attack. Nicoara then fell and lay face down, with his hands over his neck, trying to appear dead to dissuade the animal.

According to Nicoara, he could hear his bones breaking during the attack. After the pause caused by the shots, the bear advanced again while the hunter reported having emptied the rest of the magazine.
