Humberto Lane, a 70-year-old singer, songwriter, and drummer, who defines himself as the "Grandpa of rock," started in music in the 1960s and returned to original production after decades away from the spotlight. His comeback to releases runs into an issue he prefers to face by making music: ageism. Now, he has gone back to recording, composing, and releasing new work on digital platforms.
Among his new compositions is "Vem com Vini Bailar" (Come with Vini and Dance), inspired by the forward for Real Madrid and the Brazilian National Team, Vini Jr. In the lyrics, the player appears as the "dancer of the ball," a reference to football and his on-field celebrations.
Humberto also composed "Dona de Casa" (Housewife), a song dedicated to Brazilian women that addresses the daily routine of those who take care of the home and family. Another recent composition, "Elas Só Me Chamam de Papai" (They Only Call Me Daddy), bets on humor and is part of the singer's current repertoire.
Humberto's relationship with music runs in the family, as he is the son of a musician. With his new productions, the "Grandpa of rock" challenges ageism by showing that age is no impediment to continuing to create and release original works.
