Teams from Enel Rio, accompanied by civil police officers from the 72nd Police Station (Mutuá) and the Criminal Forensics Unit, are carrying out operations to combat energy irregularities in São Gonçalo, in the Greater Rio Metropolitan Area. During this week's actions, direct electricity connections were identified at two commercial establishments.
At the first location, a supermarket, technicians from the utility company removed a three-phase direct connection made on the low-voltage network, using 70 mm² cables. At the second establishment, a pizza factory that also served as a residence, a single-phase direct connection was identified. The names of the establishments were not disclosed.
The women responsible for both establishments were present at the time of the actions and were taken to the police station to provide statements. The incidents will be investigated by the police authority, which will continue the inquiries into the irregularities.
Energy theft is considered a crime with a penalty of one to four years imprisonment. Beyond the criminal issue, the utility company warns that these irregular connections pose safety risks.
