Police demand urgent meeting with Ministry of Finance and threaten to stage protests

SIC Notícias2 September 2026 at 20:17

Police forces are requesting an urgent meeting with the Ministry of Finance and threatening to stage protests if the Government does not respond to their demands. The police union set a deadline for the Executive to take a position.

The negotiations with police unions arise within the framework of an agreement established two years ago with the Government. That agreement defined a phased increase in the risk allowance for police professionals.

Police point to the lack of responses from the Government to their demands. Without the right to strike, unions see themselves limited in the forms of pressure available to enforce their demands.
