The referees of the Portuguese I Liga will no longer have their performance ratings made public. The Arbitration Council made this decision, which puts an end to yet another form of transparency in football refereeing.
This measure comes as part of a series of other changes already implemented previously. The television programmes that explained referee decisions to viewers had already been discontinued.
With this decision, another mechanism of public scrutiny over referee performance disappears. Fans and the media will no longer have access to the ratings assigned to referees after each matchday of the championship.
