The documentary "Os ruminantes" ("The Ruminants"), directed by Tarsila Araújo and Marcelo Mello, portrays the history of "A hora dos ruminantes," an adaptation of José J. Veiga's novel of the same name whose screenplay was written by Luiz Sérgio Person and Jean-Claude Bernardet in 1967, but that was never filmed. The feature film rescues testimonies from people involved in the project and historical documents to tell this story.
The film will have a special screening at Estação Claro Rio, in Botafogo, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, next Tuesday (8), at 9 PM. The screening promises to bring to the public the trajectory of this project that was not completed.
The documentary points out the difficulties faced to carry out the project during the years of the Military Dictatorship in Brazil, revealing the political and social obstacles of the time that prevented the production from moving forward.
The feature film includes interviews with Jean-Claude Bernardet, critic, director and screenwriter who passed away in 2025, Marina Person, daughter of Luiz Sérgio Person, and Sebastião de Souza, assistant to the filmmaker across various projects.
