Gracindo Jr. died this Wednesday at 83 in Rio de Janeiro. He was one of the most complete artists in Brazil, with a career of over 60 years working both in front of and behind the cameras, on various networks, in addition to dedicating himself to theater and cinema.

Part of the inaugural cast of TV Globo, whose official broadcasts began in April 1965, Gracindo Jr. had already been contracted by the channel since December 1964. Before that, he had debuted in theater in 1961, in the play "A escada" by Oswald de Andrade. He was the son of Paulo Gracindo, another important name in Brazilian performing arts.

In the soap operas of the first phase of TV Globo, Gracindo Jr. was in "Rosinha do sobrado" (1965) and "Padre Tião" (1966), both written by Moisés Weltman. In "Os ossos do Barão" (1973), by Jorge Andrade, he acted alongside his father, something that happened again in "O Bem-Amado," a work by Dias Gomes shown in the same year, in which Paulo played the mayor of the fictional town of Sucupira.

Chronicle by Paulo Freitas do Amaral evoking childhood memories in Cruz Quebrada, in Oeiras, describing the now nearly extinct habit of "family whistles" - unique sounds each family used to call their children home, especially at dinner time. The author narrates how these sound communications allowed children to play freely in the streets while parents maintained contact at a distance. Despite modern technology having replaced this tradition, the author reveals he still uses his mother's whistle in supermarkets when they lose each other, proving certain habits can survive over time. The text ends with a nostalgic appeal to preserve and transmit this practice to new generations.
