The president of Chega, André Ventura, will announce this afternoon whether the party will proceed with a motion of censure against the Government. The statement is scheduled for 4:00 PM at the party's headquarters in Lisbon. On Tuesday night, Ventura had revealed he was "more inclined to proceed" with the motion of censure.
The issue arose after André Ventura set a deadline for this Tuesday, demanding that the prime minister resolve the situation of the Minister of Internal Administration, which he considered had reached a "grotesque" and "unacceptable" level. On Monday, the leader of Chega announced he would convene the party's bodies the following day to make a "final decision."
On Tuesday afternoon, Ventura also indicated he had not yet made a decision, postponing it "probably" until today. Hours later, in an interview with CNN Portugal, he reiterated that the decision had not yet been made, but stated there was "a fairly broad consensus" within the party that the motion of censure "may make sense."
Ventura argued that the decision cannot be made "lightly" and that he would have to hear from the party, the President of the Republic, and some public figures before announcing his position.
