New Apple CEO succumbs to Trump's pressure and changes name of Lake Ontario

SAPO Notícias2 September 2026 at 07:34

John Ternus recently took the position of Apple CEO and was immediately confronted with pressure from United States President Donald Trump regarding a change on Apple Maps.

Trump demanded that the name of Lake Ontario be changed on Apple's map service. In response, North American users of Apple Maps can now view the former Lake Ontario renamed as "Lake America^", including a circumflex accent on the name.

This change comes in the context of a broader executive order by Trump that aims to rename various geographical features in the United States, including the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to "Gulf of America".
