Flamengo and Botafogo were involved in a controversy in the last days of the transfer window after forwards Gonzalo Plata, from the red-and-black club, and Matheus Martins, from the white-and-black club, had their transfers to Dynamo Moscow, from Russia, canceled. The two players had landed in the European country and underwent medical exams at the Russian club, which claims the pair did not meet the required medical parameters.
Dynamo Moscow even published images of the two Brazilians landing at the airport, complete with club scarves and themed receptions, which made the situation even more embarrassing when the club decided to "return" the players. The decision was communicated yesterday and caught the Brazilian clubs by surprise.
Flamengo responded forcefully about the case, accusing Dynamo of "amateurism and irresponsibility." The club expressed intention to seek legal redress against the Russians. Botafogo also expressed outrage at the situation and promised to take similar measures against the Moscow club.
With the transfer window about to close, both clubs now face the difficult task of reassigning the players. Plata and Matheus Martins, who had already said goodbye to their clubs of origin, risk being without playing time for a considerable period, as the deadlines for new registrations may be compromised.
