Rapporteur presents Security PEC text and removes section that would reduce sports funding

Senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE) presented on Tuesday the report on the constitutional amendment proposal (PEC) on Security, which reinforces the Union's role in this matter. The rapporteur met a demand from the sports sector to prevent resources for the area from being drained. Carvalho made an adjustment regarding the text approved by the Chamber and removed the section that provided for transfers to the National Public Security Fund and the National Penitentiary Fund.

As the measure was approved by the deputies, there would be a 30% cut in funds collected from sports betting that were destined for the Ministry of Sports, the Brazilian Olympic Committee, and the Brazilian Sports Clubs Committee. The deletion was considered a drafting amendment, not a matter of substance, and therefore should not trigger a new vote by the Chamber of Deputies.

The PEC is on the voting agenda this Wednesday of the Senate's Committee on Constitution and Justice. After passing through the CCJ, the proposal still needs to be approved by the plenary of the House before proceeding to promulgation.
