The Senate approved this Tuesday the bill that establishes the incentive plan for the data center sector, called Redata. The text had already been approved in the Chamber of Deputies in February, but was blocked among senators until last week, when a meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Senate President, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), unblocked the vote.
Senator Cid Gomes (PSB-CE) was chosen to rapporteur the project. To accelerate the implementation of the measure, he maintained the merit of the Chamber's text, which was the responsibility of Deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), making only drafting adjustments.
Through Redata, companies in the sector may count on suspension and subsequent reduction to zero rate of taxes such as IPI, PIS/Pasep, and Cofins on the acquisition and importation of information and communication technology equipment destined for the installation or expansion of data centers. A reduction of import duties is also provided when there is no equivalent domestic production.
