The Portuguese Maritime Police rescued 33 people during a mission carried out in Greece. The operatives are part of the "GREECE 2026" mission, which is currently underway in that country.
The operation is coordinated by the European agency Frontex, responsible for managing the borders of the European Union. The mission aims at the surveillance and control of the maritime borders of the Schengen area.
The Portuguese elements are also providing support to the Hellenic Coast Guard in their security and rescue operations at sea.
