Senate approves Pacheco for TCU seat after legislator was passed over by Lula for a STF seat

oglobo1 September 2026 at 22:29

The Senate approved this Tuesday the name of Rodrigo Pacheco (PSB-MG) for a seat on the Court of Accounts of the Union (TCU), in a maneuver led by the president of the House, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP). The vote was secret, with 63 favorable votes and 4 against, with 41 of the 81 votes necessary for approval. There was no hearing before the vote.

Pacheco will assume the seat left by Minister Bruno Dantas, who formalized his early departure from the court this Monday. Alcolumbre formalized the indication of the ally on Monday night itself so that the matter could advance this week, the last with voting sessions before the elections.

The president of the Senate called Senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL) and asked him to be the rapporteur of the indication. The political maneuvering was quick to guarantee approval still in this legislative period.

The indication of Pacheco for the TCU was considered certain by parliamentarians since he was passed over by President Luiz Inácio Lula for a seat on the Supreme Federal Court. Now, the matter still needs to be endorsed by the Chamber of Deputies.
