Dynamo Moscow communicated to Flamengo that they will not exercise the purchase of Ecuadorian player Plata after he failed medical exams, which caught the Red-Black club by surprise. Flamengo already considered the deal, worth R$60 million in cash, as certain and even released the player to travel to Russia upon payment guarantee.
The Flamengo board does not understand that Plata has physical issues, since the Ecuadorian played in a World Cup and came from seasons in full form at the club. The turnaround happened on Tuesday afternoon, when the Russians simply informed that they would not finalize the operation.
The club had already announced Plata's substitutes: Anthony Valencia, which cost R$30 million, and Argentine Joaquín Freitas, confirmed for another R$40 million. Flamengo does not intend to undo the deals for either reinforcement.
With the sale not materializing, Flamengo is trying to understand how it will adjust its budget, since it used the expected funds from Plata to make down payments on the new players. The club is seeking alternatives to balance the books after the unexpected impact.
