Jurors in Lindsay Clancy's trial informed the judge they were at an impasse after the fourth day of deliberations, but Judge William Sullivan ordered them to continue trying to reach a unanimous verdict. The mother, 36 years old and a resident of Massachusetts, in the United States, is accused of homicide by strangulation of her three children.
The jurors sent a note to the judge saying: "After many hours of deliberation, we have been unable to reach a unanimous decision." The note was read approximately one hour after they had resumed discussions on a Tuesday.
Judge Sullivan sent the jurors back to the deliberation room, noting that he knows the trial has been long and exhausting, with more than 80 witnesses and over 300 pieces of evidence presented during the proceedings.
Lindsay Clancy's defense argues that she suffered from postpartum psychosis at the time of the crimes, seeking to contextualize the mother's mental state at the time of her three children's deaths.
