Sony Music and Warner Chappell Music filed a joint lawsuit against Anthropic, creator of the Claude artificial intelligence model. The two music publishers accuse the company of massive music theft to train its AI systems.
The lawsuit alleges that Anthropic used copyrighted works without authorization to feed its language models, committing what the publishers describe as "one of the largest copyright infringements in history."
The lawsuit emerges in the context of a broader dispute between the music industry and technology companies developing AI systems, with publishers demanding compensation for damages caused by the unauthorized use of their creations.
This lawsuit joins a series of similar actions filed by rights holders against AI companies, at a time when intellectual property legislation in the technology sector continues to be debated.
