Portuguese José Carlos Pinto became today champion of the 5,000 meters at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy. The 29-year-old Portuguese athlete completed the race with a time of 14.41.11 minutes, securing the Gold Medal.
This victory represented the 29th Medal won by the Portuguese national Mission at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto 2026.
In the competition, José Carlos Pinto relegated Tunisian Mohamed Jhinaoui to second place, with a time of 14.41.55 minutes. Moroccan Fouad Messaoudi completed the podium by finishing in third place, with 14.41.75 minutes.
This was the second Gold Medal won by Portuguese athletics on the same day in Taranto, after Omar Elkhatib also won his event.
