Portuguese athlete Omar Elkhatib was today crowned champion of the 400 meters at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto 2026. The 24-year-old runner completed the race in 44.92 seconds, setting a new Mediterranean Games record and succeeding compatriot João Coelho, who had won the previous edition.
The podium was completed by Frenchman Dylan Mileau, who took silver with a time of 45.16 seconds, and Italian Lorenzo Benati, who finished in third place with 45.32 seconds.
This victory represents the 28th medal won by Portugal at the 2026 edition of the Mediterranean Games, contributing significantly to the National Mission's medal tally.
