Around 50 politicians, intellectuals and artists asked the Paris City Hall on Tuesday to declare Argentine President Javier Milei as persona non grata in the city. The document requests that the mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, reject any official reception or distinction to the Argentine leader.
Milei is expected to travel to the French capital between late September and early October. The signatories also advocate that French authorities reaffirm their solidarity with the democratic struggles of Argentine society.
The petition, published on the Change.org platform, alleges that after nearly three years in office, Javier Milei's radical austerity policy weighs heavily on Argentine society. The text asks the Paris Council to declare the Argentine president persona non grata in the city.
