A survey by the National Association of Career Environmental Specialists (Ascema Nacional) identified 240 candidates in the 2026 general elections who have environmental liabilities with Ibama and ICMBio. The cross-referencing of CPF numbers from the 20,653 candidates registered with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) with the enforcement databases of these agencies revealed that, together, these candidates accumulate R$ 213,516,574.62 in environmental fines.
The largest number of candidates with enforcements are running for state deputy positions, totaling 119 people who concentrate R$ 129.7 million in fines listed in the infraction notices. Following these are 83 candidates for federal deputy, who have 178 infraction notices totaling R$ 67,387,231.59 in fines, followed by 12 Senate candidates with 17 enforcements totaling R$ 3,436,800.
Ascema Nacional highlights that, if elected, these candidates would have direct power over the budget, regulations, and oversight of the very environmental agencies responsible for the enforcements issued against them. The survey was produced exclusively from data available in the official databases of Ibama and ICMBio.
