Around 850 nurses needed for ULS, Health Minister reveals

The number of nurses needed for local health units (ULS) is around 850, the Health Minister revealed today. This information was transmitted during a statement to journalists by Marta Temido, who highlighted the dimension of human resource needs in the sector.

The minister also stated that an expansion of these health professionals' working hours is planned. This expansion of hours aims to presumably meet the growing needs of care and operation of local health units.

Local health units are structures that integrate primary and hospital healthcare within the same organization, seeking to improve coordination between different levels of care. The shortage of nurses has been a recurring concern in the Portuguese health system.
