British startup incubated at Técnico raises 1.2 million dollars in funding

Eco1 September 2026 at 15:41

The London Quantum Group, a British startup incubated in the Apollo acceleration program of Junitec – Junior Company of the Instituto Superior Técnico, closed a pre-seed investment round of over 1.2 million dollars. The capital is intended to accelerate international expansion and strengthen the company's operations, which is dedicated to the development of health data infrastructures that allow using clinical records for research and training Artificial Intelligence models without exposing patient information.

The round was led by Long Journey Ventures and featured investors who were involved in the early stages of companies like SpaceX and Uber. The company was founded in 2025 by Sebastian Kot, CEO, and by Chris Whittle, COO and doctor at the National Health Service, providing privacy-preserving technology that allows analyzing and creating models on encrypted data without it being exposed to third parties.

Miguel Faustino, manager of the Apollo Program, stated that this investment demonstrates the need to create environments where students can develop advanced technology and address concrete challenges facing society. The London Quantum Group already collaborates with the British public health system and is expanding its activity to the United States.

For the first time, the Apollo acceleration program opened its edition to applications from university startups across Europe. In addition to the support from the Junitec team, participating startups have access to partners such as Cloudflare, guidance from mentors at Augusta Labs, Unicorn Factory, and Lispolis, and the opportunity to connect with investors at events like Unicorn Day.

Brazilian MJV launches in Portugal an AI platform that creates digital twins of consumers to test products before launch

Brazilian consulting firm MJV Technology & Innovation launched in Portugal the AiRA platform, an Artificial Intelligence tool that creates "synthetic personas" — digital twins of real consumers — to simulate behaviors, preferences, and decision-making processes. The technology allows companies to validate products, marketing campaigns, pricing strategies, and go-to-market plans without investing in the real market, reducing risks, costs, and development time. Founded 29 years ago in Rio de Janeiro, with more than a thousand employees and 10 offices in Latin America, North America, and Europe, MJV positions AiRA as a response to the challenge companies face of innovating quickly with less exposure to risk.
