The independent councilor Luís Filipe Santos, of the Funchal Municipal Council, criticized the city's mobility policy, stating that it cannot be reduced to merely painting lanes on the asphalt and changing traffic directions. The councilor argued that the new changes to road traffic in the city center, including the creation of BUS lanes, must be accompanied by a rigorous assessment of their effects on mobility. Although he did not oppose the creation of the lanes designated for public transport, Santos considered it important to understand whether the measures will effectively make buses faster and more regular, without creating new traffic problems.
