A simple blood test can help predict the risk of relapse in patients with multiple myeloma. A study driven by the CRIS Foundation Against Cancer opens a new avenue to improve the follow-up of patients with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that affects the plasma cells of the bone marrow, normally responsible for producing antibodies against infections. The research is led by researchers from the CRIS Unit of Hematological Tumors at the University Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid. The study demonstrates that the detection of tumor DNA in the blood allows identifying patients at higher risk of relapse, even when the disease appears to be controlled.
