The National Prison Guard Corps Union (SNCGP) decided to extend the strike at Vale de Judeus prison in Alcoentre for another month, until the end of September. The decision was made against the lack of security conditions at the prison.
The president of the SNCGP, Frederico Morais, confirmed the decision to the Lusil news agency, indicating that the extension of the strike is due to the absence of improvements in the working conditions and security of prison guards.
The strike comes two years after the escape of five inmates from the prison facility, which exposed serious flaws in the security conditions of the prison.
