Police investigate militia or drug trafficking involvement in death of community leader in Rio

The Civil Police, through the Capital Homicide Division (DHC), investigates the death of Josiene Dias de Assunção Maia, a community leader active in the neighborhoods of Campo do Quinze and Colônia, in Jacarepaguá, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

She was shot dead on Saturday night in Curicica, also in the Southwest Zone. Josiene was inside a car when she was executed. According to forensics, more than 50 shots were fired at the vehicle.

The Civil Police already know that the victim had recently received death threats. Investigators are looking into whether the crime was committed by people linked to a militia or a criminal faction, groups that dispute territory in the region.
