The Lisbon Stock Exchange opened Tuesday's session with a gain of 0.99% to 9,530.59 points, contrasting with the negative performance of most major European stock exchanges. The biggest gains on the Portuguese stock exchange were recorded by EDP, which gained 2.82% to €4.81, followed by EDP Renováveis with a rise of 2.64% to €14.02, and by Galp Energia which advanced 1.36% to €21.69. Companies such as Sonae, Navigator, Mota-Engil, Altri, REN, Corticeira Amorim, Teixeira Duarte and NOS were also in the green.
On the negative side, Semapa was down 1.18% to €20.95, CTT fell 0.31% to €6.54, and Jerónimo Martins slipped 0.17% to €17.97. Banco Comercial Português was also trading in the red.
Most European indices opened in negative territory. Germany's DAX fell 0.49% to 26,152.46 points, the UK's FTSE 100 dropped 0.45% to 10,775.30 points, and Spain's IBEX 35 fell 0.42% to 19,904.28 points. Italy's FTSE MIB and France's CAC 40 and the Dutch AEX registered positive but slight variations.
As for commodities, oil was trading higher, with brent rising 3.61% to $91.56 and crude gaining 1.31% to $86.88. The European currency was down 0.14% against the dollar to $1.16018 and fell 0.05% against the pound to £0.85686.
