Iran: Saudi supertanker intercepted in Hormuz after incident with military forces

The Saudi supertanker "Sidr", with capacity for two million barrels of oil, was intercepted by Iranian military forces while navigating the southern channel of the Strait of Hormuz, after it had suddenly activated its automatic identification system. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre confirmed having received reports of an incident involving a tanker and military forces in the Indian Ocean, while another tanker was hit by three unknown projectiles off the coast of Oman. Iran, which has repeatedly expressed opposition to the viability of maritime transit through the southern corridor, stated that the ship was "completely immobilized" after the impact of two naval mines, warning that ships that violate its security rules will face the same fate. US military rejected the Iranian statements, considering them false and an attempt to intimidate commercial navigation through disinformation.
