The Labor Inspectorate issued a sanction proposal against Glovo for not having suspended its activity during a red heat alert, thus failing to comply with the basic regulations on occupational risk prevention. The labor authority considers that the delivery company committed a serious offense by deciding, on July 8, to maintain its operations in Barcelona, despite the red alert decreed by weather agencies.
On that day, the Catalan capital broke a historical temperature record, with thermometers exceeding 40 degrees during certain time slots. Glovo decided, even so, to keep its riders working on the streets and circulating, assuming the risks that this implies for their health.
The incident specifically refers to Glovo's operation in Barcelona during the extreme heat wave, when the company did not follow the safety recommendations or the risk prevention standards that should have been applied under these extreme weather conditions.
