Nepal rescue teams are testing drones capable of carrying up to 100 kilos to deliver humanitarian aid to areas isolated by the tragedy affecting the country. The searches continue for more than 4,000 missing people, while a race is underway to bring food and other essential items to survivors of what is considered the biggest disaster ever recorded in Nepal in more than a decade.
According to the United Nations, about 10,000 families were affected by the disaster. The destruction is extensive: roads and bridges were ruined, power poles were destroyed, and transportation and communication services were interrupted, significantly hindering traditional relief efforts.
The drones are being tested to deliver supplies across the Trishuli River, which originates in Tibet and flows into the central region of Nepal. In the Tibetan section of the river, there are confirmed 16 deaths and more than 500 missing people.
