This article evokes the summer customs of the Castelló region, where, before televisions existed, people gathered at night to "estar a la fresca" (be in the cool), a common habit in Castelló and its 135 municipalities. After dinner, neighbors gathered at the doorstep of a house, each bringing their own chair to chat and wait for the sea breeze.
The men talked about football, politics and, when they were farmers, about the countryside. The women, as they themselves said, talked about "their things" and, meanwhile, looked for and shared news, always waiting for the cool sea breeze to arrive.
Among the memorable characters of the era, Maxinet de l'arròs stands out, considered the first entrepreneur of the municipality of Castelló. During summer, he sold ice cream through the streets, performed comic bullfighting representations at the town's festivals and sold seafood products through the neighborhoods with a van, becoming a highly valued figure in the community.
