91-year-old man regains title of oldest person in the world to hike an almost 4,000-kilometer trail

Dale Sanders, known as "White Beard," became the oldest person in the world to complete the Appalachian Trail, a nearly four-thousand-kilometer route between the states of Georgia and Maine, in the United States. The 91-year-old elderly man finished the journey on Monday morning, the 31st.

The Appalachian Trail is officially considered complete when someone passes through all sections, in any order, within a one-year period. Sanders started the route on September 6, 2025, managing to finish the mission with a few days to spare.

This is not Sanders' first record. In 2017, at age 82, he became for the first time the oldest person to complete the trail. However, the following year, his friend M.J. Eberhart, 83, known as "Agile Nomad," surpassed his mark and took the title. Sanders has now reclaimed the world record holder position by completing the trail again at an even older age.
