In Cascais, the procession of Our Lady of Navigators takes place, patron saint of the local fishing community. The village keeps the tradition of the sea alive with 52 vessels and a community of about 150 men dedicated to fishing.
At the beginning of the year, the meteorological depression Kristin and a set of consecutive storms, referred to as a "storm train," forced fishermen to remain on land for about two months, resulting in a complete halt of fishing activity and the absence of income for the sea professionals.
The procession represents an important moment of faith and tradition for this fishing community, which depends directly on maritime conditions for its livelihood. Cascais thus keeps its historic connection to the sea alive, despite the difficulties imposed by adverse weather conditions.
