Migrations: Ceuta decides not to open nurseries until end of September

SAPO Notícias31 August 2026 at 20:15

The Government of Ceuta decided today to postpone the opening of nursery schools under municipal management, initially planned for the beginning of September, until the end of the month. The measure affects nurseries for children up to 3 years of age.

The decision was made due to the situation experienced in the Spanish city since the end of July, when thousands of immigrants entered Ceuta, Spanish territory on the north African coast. The city faced a significant migratory crisis during that period.

The postponement specifically applies to early childhood education schools under municipal management, which will remain suspended until at least September. This decision is part of the management measures adopted by the Government of Ceuta in response to the current context.

Ceuta is a Spanish enclave located on the north African coast, being one of two Spanish autonomous cities in the region, along with Melilla. The migratory crisis in July caused additional pressure on the city's services and infrastructure.
