Auriol Dongmo became champion in shot put by achieving a distance of 19.42 meters, thus setting a new Games record in Taranto, Italy. The Portuguese athlete reached this mark which allowed her to climb to the highest step of the podium in the competition.
Auriol Dongmo's achievement represented a Portuguese one-two finish in the event, with two Portuguese athletes achieving outstanding results in the same competition, thus helping to strengthen Portugal's position in the medal table.
This golden triumph was the ninth gold won by the Portuguese delegation on Italian soil during these Games. Auriol Dongmo's victory joined other successes already achieved by Portugal throughout this competition held in Taranto.
The mark of 19.42 meters set by the athlete not only guaranteed her the champion title but also surpassed the previous Games record that was in effect before this edition in Taranto.
