The Viradouro samba school from Niterói, current carnival champion, held on Saturday (29) the samba competition for the theme "Griô," which will be presented at Sapucaí in 2027. The theme addresses the mythological emergence of orality and the figure of the griô, the traditional storyteller. Eight competing works were presented, performed for the first time before the school's community at its headquarters.
The classic tagline "Senta, que lá vem história" (Sit down, because here comes a story) from the "Rá-tim-bum" children's program on TV Cultura is mentioned as a reference to the theme, although with the difference that the event was not static. All sambas fulfilled well the mission of translating the synopsis presented by carnival designer Tarcísio Zanon and theme writer João Gustavo Melo into lyrics and melody.
Marcelinho Calil, president of the association, personally followed each passage of the competitors, observing both the stage performance and the receptivity of the audience present at the headquarters. The choice of the samba goes through the letter "M," of collective memory, as indicated by the title of the analysis.
