Professor Élder Cardoso, vice president of the Louros School for the 2nd and 3rd Cycles, passed away this afternoon after a long battle against a prolonged illness. Regional sport and Madeira handball in particular are in mourning for his death.
Élder Cardoso was for many years a major figure and a reference in handball in Madeira, both as a player and in service to the sport. He held various positions, including that of regional technical director.
He was the architect behind the promotion to the 1st Division of the women's team from Colégio do Infante, which on that same occasion also became national champions, marking a historic moment for Madeira handball.
