Future Elevador da Glória with More Safety

The new Elevador da Glória will be inaugurated by the end of 2029, as announced by Luís Gonçalves, president of the Independent Technical Commission of Carris. The project will proceed with the launch of a specification document for an international tender, which will define the conditions for the construction of the new infrastructure.

The new transport solution aims to connect Praça dos Restauradores to Bairro Alto, replacing the previous system that suffered a disaster in September last year. This accident led to a complete reassessment of the elevator and the need for a new approach to the project.

The president of Carris, Rui Lopo, presented at a press conference the five principles that will guide the new solution. These principles aim to ensure greater safety and reliability for the system that serves one of the most iconic areas of Lisbon.
