Carris, Lisbon's public transport company, announced that it expects to launch the public tender for the construction of the new Elevador da Glória in the first quarter of 2027, with the aim of inaugurating the infrastructure in 2029. The company guaranteed that it is working to meet this goal, although it acknowledged that the schedule may face unforeseen events.
The vice-president of the Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, who is also the city's mayor, promised that the council would be "very vigilant" regarding compliance with the established deadlines for the completion of the work.
The Elevador da Glória is one of Lisbon's most iconic monuments, connecting Baixa to Bairro Alto. Its renovation is considered essential for urban mobility and for the preservation of the historical heritage of the Portuguese capital.
Carris acknowledges that the timeline of the future solution is subject to possible "vicissitudes", meaning complications or obstacles that may arise throughout the planning and execution process of the work.
